Positive: To say that two things are the same,
use "so . . . wie."
Comparative: To say that two things are different, use
the suffix "-er" and "als."
If the adjective is a one-syllable word with the main
vowel "a" "o" or "u," add an umlaut
to the vowel.
Superlative: To form the superlative, use "am
-sten" (for adverbs or predicate adjectives)
or add "-(e)st" plus an adjective ending
(for attributive adjectives).
Use the "-est" ending for adjectives or
adverbs that end with -t or -d, -sch or -z. Umlaut one-syllable
adjectives if the stem vowel is "a" "o" or
"u."
z.B. Mein Zwillingsbruder Nikolas ist natürlich so
alt wie ich, aber unsre Schwester Gerda ist jünger
als wir und unser Bruder Josef ist älter als
wir. Josef ist der älteste Brüder. Aus allen
Kindern in der Familie ist Josef am ältesten, und
Gerda am jüngsten. Gerda ist das jüngste
Kind.
My twin brother Nikolas is of course as old as I
am, but our sister Gerda is younger than we and our brother
Josef is older than we (are). Josef is the oldest
brother. Of all the children in the family, Josef is the
oldest and Gerda is the youngest. Gerda is the
youngest child.
